1 Cor. 10:1-13 Spiritual blessings provide the basis for a spiritually successful life. But,they never guarantee it.
1. What
does God want us to know? v. 1 In spite of blessing, depending upon our
choices, we can miss our destiny.
2. What
did Israel experience? vv. 1-4 All
were blessed. Five times this is repeated. All were blessed, but not all made
good choices.
3. Privilege
never guarantees success. We must exercise our responsibility to discipline our
lives and stay close to God.
4. Why
was Israel disqualified? v. 5. The
people with the most appropriated the least.
5. What
should we learn from Israel’s example? v. 6-13 We should never take our blessings for granted and presume
upon the goodness of God.
6. Christian
freedom should never lead to self-indulgence, but to inner self-controls that
lead to servant living. We are blessed to do God’s will. We are blessed to be a
blessing.
7. Even
good things can become evil, when we look to something or someone else for what
only God can give.
8. God has made provision for temptation to be always accompanied by a way of escape. v. 13 We must walk in humility and obedience to be positioned to see the way of escape. God doesn’t promise the removal of temptation, He does promise a victorious way through it.
9. Summary: From
the greatest blessing can come the greatest fall. Privilege never guarantees
success. Privileges demand responsibility. We must walk circumspectly, keeping
our eyes on the Lord and using our blessings to live a godly life.
